This week in class we learned how to make our own videos to record our computer screen. I will be honest I don’t think I really see myself using this very often when I’m a teacher. I can see how it could be beneficial for parents to refer to when helping their children with assignments, however I don’t intend to send homework home when I’m a teacher, if a child didn’t get work done in class I believe it was for a reason and sending it home for them to finish I don’t think is a fair thing to do as they may not have the support they need. Therefore, I’m not really sure if I would need to create very many of these videos because I would be able to explain face to face in class. Also, I found the process of making the video kind of frustrating and a bit stressful, especially after we had finished recording we weren’t sure whether it had actually been recording or not (luckily it was!). Also, you will notice a link down below that says “video” I was not able to figure out how to do that after an hour of experimenting, but luckily someone else in class was able to help me so now I know for next time (growth mindset). I do see the other side of how these videos could potentially be beneficial for students learning, especially if you have experience making these videos with technology and know how to make them interactive and engaging for students I think this could be really fun, however in order to do that I will need to get more comfortable with technology. Additionally, when class was online due to Covid I think video recording gave a lot of opportunities for teachers to offer extra support and additional lessons to help with students learning. I will be honest, when I had courses online during Covid, a few of my professors made extra lectures for us to watch along with the zoom/teams lectures, by the middle of the semester I stopped watching these extra video recorded lectures because I felt I was already spending so many hours on my computer and it didn’t feel like they were going to end. Therefore, I think it would be beneficial if teachers kept their videos fairly short in order to keep the student engaged. Overall I do think there are benefits to students learning with recorded videos (and having fun with them), however I’m not sure how much I see myself as a future teaching using this technique as students will be learning with me face to face. Also there are a lot of resources that have interactive and engaging videos (like the time lapse ones) you can show your class.
