This week, I thought I would like to create a mindfulness blogpost about being mindful with money. I thought I would also benefit from this as I have lately been spending my money on things that aren’t really necessary and that I don’t really need, such as buying lates from cafes when I could technically make them at home. It’s actually surprising how much money we spend overtime when buying small things such as coffee. Although you may be “only” spending 3 dollars on a tea or coffee if you do this even just three times a week thats almost 10 dollars a week on coffee if there are 52 weeks in a year thats $520 you could still have in your bank account or spend on something special. Additionally, as a university student and future teacher, it’s important to have balance with money and to be aware of where it’s going. Below I will be discussing the website I found the most helpful and tips I discovered from this website for being mindful with money.

A website I found is called editseven.ca and their article was called “7 Ways to be More Mindful about Money and Your Spending Habits.” I found some of their suggestions really helpful and I think they can help with saving money by Gracie Carroll. Below I will put the suggestions I would be the most likely to use:

1.Set intentions before you shop: I like the idea of creating a list when shopping for things such as clothes, and instead of spending money on things you don’t necessarily need having a list that you can check off of things you would actually use would be beneficial.

2.Create a spending plan: I think this is where you could avoid waisting money on coffee and small things that add up over time. I like the idea of budgeting yourself and being mindful of your spending habits such as eating out, buying coffees etc…

3.Meditate and Center your focus: I found out through this suggestion that by pausing and taking a breath when it comes to financial stress or taking care of finances in general (as that can also be stressful) can actually help calm yourself down and allow yourself to do a checkin and then make a decision about where you will go.

(I would also recommend looking at their other suggestions, however the ones I included above were the ones I think I would most likely be inclined to use).

Overall, I do believe that mindfulness plays a huge roll in money and finances, as it’s not only important to have balance with your spending habits but it’s also extremely important to be able to clear your headspace and bring yourself to the frame of mind that you are able to deal with and look after it without impacting your overall mental well-being.
