1.How do you feel about reading? Tell me about it.
Something I do enjoy doing is reading, it’s just for me finding the time to actually do it. I’m also the type of reader who will read one or two chapters of a book and then not open it for months. I tend to not read as much when I’m home as I often play the piano instead to escape for a while. However, when I go on road trips or long flights I enjoy reading a book.
2.What types of books do you like to read?
I most enjoy romance and non-fiction novels. I’ve never been a big fan of fantasy novels like Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter etc… I would rather read a fictional story that is based on true events like “The Book Thief.” I usually like to read stories that are happy or end with a happy ending and let my mind escape to a happy place. I’ve never been a fan of horror stories or very intense stories as I’m a bit sensitive, even Harry Potter was too scary for me when I was younger and even now there are parts where it’s a bit too intense for me.
3.List some hobbies and things you like to do outside of school.
I enjoy swimming, playing the piano, baking, spending time outside like hiking (as long as sleeping in a tent in the middle of the forest is not involved), cross-country skiing, and spending time with my family. I’m grateful we live in an area with so much beautiful nature around us and I like to take advantage of it when I can.
4.Who are your favourite authors?
I would say Robert Munsch is my most favourite author and Dr. Seuss.
5.Tell me about the last book you read that you really enjoyed.
I have been reading a book called “Tilly” by Monique Gray Smith. If you haven’t read it I would highly recommend this book, it’s about her own personal story and I have a lot of admiration and respect for her given the challenges she has faced and overcome growing up as an Indigenous woman.
6.Tell me a bit about what you have been doing since last semester during your winter break. How have you been spending your time?
My winter break was really nice, I went to the island (Duncan) to visit my cousin who is on the national rowing team and living there right now while she is training. I enjoyed getting to spend time with my family during Christmas and my aunt from Edmonton came and stayed with us. Now that there is more snow I’m hoping to cross country ski a bit more.
7.What subjects or topics do you like learning about?
My favourite subjects have always been in humanities, I prefer English over Social Studies but if I’m interested in whaat I’m learning about then there are times I enjoy learning about history. I also enjoy Science and I’m excited to teach it in elementary school as there are so many fun and hands-on or outdoor activities that can be connected to science. Math has never been my most favourite subject as I’ve always struggled with it, however after having Santosh as a math teacher I have gained a new outlook on it and found it to be fun and engaging when taught by someone who made it fun and engaging, I hope to make math fun for my students too.
8. If you could read a book about one thing, what would that be?
Now that I have almost finished reading Tilly, I would like to read Braiding Sweetgrass which I’m excited about because we will be reading this book for one of our courses this semester.
