For our class on November 22nd, I had the opportunity to go to the SD5 resource centre located at Kootenay Orchards Elementary School. This was such a great experience and I enjoyed learning about everything the resource centre has to offer for when I’m doing my practicums and also for when I become a teacher. Firstly, we got to look at what is actually inside the resource centre and what materials we can actually borrow to use for class activities! I liked how we were given a tour of what kind of resources they have to offer, and I saw quite a few things that would be fun to use in the classroom. It’s also good to know that they have equipment such as cross country skis and snow shoes as I would like to take my classes outside and give them as many outdoor opportunities as possible. After we were given the tour Mr. Ryan McKenzie (one of the technology directors of the school board) showed us the technology design lab. I really enjoyed learning about all of the different technology they have, and I was also glad to know that Mr. McKenzie will come to your classroom to help teach students how to use it. I found it fun getting to experiment with some of the different technology they have and I think it would be a really fun and engaging experience for students.

Above is a picture of us experimenting with these little robots that could follow lines that were drawn. We didn’t have time to try the coding option on the app they come with, however I think it would be interesting to see what they can do when they are programmed to react differently to different colours!
