This week we had the opportunity to learn about stop motion animation and make our own videos with our groups as well! I am really looking forward to the In-Situ at the Marysville Elementary School where we will be making these videos with the kids. To be honest, at first I was actually a bit nervous about this as I thought it would be much more complicated than it actually was, but when we did some experimenting and tried it a few times it actually ended up working quite well. The app we used to make this video is called Zing studio, and all you do is position your props on a plain background with good lighting and you take photos every few seconds of your object moving it in a different position each time, then the photos are put together into a video. I find it fascinating how far ahead society has come creating this kind of technology, when I think back to when Walt Disney made his original Mickey Mouse it must have taken hours to make these short films, while we were able to do ours in about 5 minutes. I think this will be really fun to include in a classroom and I think students could learn a lot from making stop motion videos, such as using their imagination, using their communication skills and working with others, and introducing them to a way they can use technology to benefit their learning. What I like about the idea of making stop motion videos in a classroom as well, is that they could be used for so many different subjects, I have quite a few ideas for how I could use them in subjects such as science and math!

Note: An app we leaned about in class that we did not use is called stop motion studio and you can download it in the app store. I would be interested in trying this app as I would like to see what the differences are between it and Zing Studio.

Our group decided to call our video “The Journey of the Bees” as we used tiny yarn bees and flowers and to make it look as if they were flying toward a flower to collect honey and then fly away. Please find our video below!
